It was her 30th birthday, and we had decided to hike up Cadini di Misurina in the pouring rain, only to be greeted at the summit by an endless wall of fog. Well worth the €50 parking fee, if you ask me. As we stood there, I noticed a solitary man perched on the edge of the ridge, staring straight down into the abyss with likely the exact same questioning thoughts we had. In an era of non-stop digital distractions, I loved the total stillness and presence of this moment—a lone figure completely anchored in the present.
